Brighton, UK once again became the focal point of the global PVC industry with the prestigious PVC conference from April 25-27. The triennial event — the world´s most noteworthy forum on vinyl — supports the future of PVC through in-depth information, education, debate and discussion. The conference was accompanied by an exhibition.
Baerlocher once again supported the event as Gold Sponsor. The company was represented by a senior management delegation and employees from technical services, product development and sales from Europe and Asia.
Dr. Cristiana Borrelli, Regional Segment Leader EMEA at Chemours, and Dr. Jörg Fröhlich, Technical Product Manager, PVC additives for window and technical profiles at Baerlocher, delivered a very well-attended and well-received presentation. Based on the results of a joint study by Chemours and Baerlocher, Borrelli and Fröhlich explained how the weathering performance of white, dark and colored PVC strongly depends on the choice of the stabilizer and the Titanium dioxide (TiO2) pigment.
The main aspects of PVC weathering are UV light interaction, acceleration by elevated temperatures and water as a reaction medium for radicals. The key finding of the study was that the correct choice of PVC stabilizer and TiO2 pigment helps improve the weathering performance of white and dark-colored PVC-U profiles.
The high level of interest in the presentation was evident in the qualified questions that the Baerlocher team gladly answered afterward.
From its table in the exhibition area, Baerlocher educated participants about highly innovative additives for a broad range of PVC applications, including profiles, pipes, cables and more.
“The event once again proved to be an ideal platform for know-how transfer, sharing of ideas and, in particular, intensive networking,” said Andy Jones, Global Head of the Business Unit PVC Additives at Baerlocher. “Still the ‘go to’ PVC event superbly organized by IOM3 proved to be an ideal opportunity for us to communicate intensively with major customers and partners from the global PVC industry.”
